Kaleb's Birthday

Kaleb turned four on Wednesday! It is so hard to believe that he is already four. We spent the day playing at home. (he stayed home from preschool with a cold). We went out to dinner with Grammy before going to church. Kaleb got a free piece of pie that he ate all by himself.

After dinner we went to church. Kaleb shared cupcakes with his class, and got up on stage in front of all the kids while they sang happy birthday. He loved it! I thought he would be shy, but he was very excited.

Thursday night we had dinner at home. Kaleb had a big chocolate chip cookie instead of cake. then he was so excited by his toys, he didn't want a cookie until it was bedtime and too late. He was very in to opening his presents this year. I'm not even sure he noticed what the present was, he just moved on to the next one.

Alana fully enjoyed her cookie.

Jaylee slept through most of the party. This is the way she usually sleeps, with her two middle fingers in her mouth.

Checkup

Jaylee had her two month checkup this week. She is 12lbs, and 24 inches long. Such a tall girl! I think she may be even taller than Alana was at this age. Scary thought.

She had to get 3 shots, but handled them well. Kaleb was okay with it too, but Alana was very upset. She didn't cry, but she did glare at the nurse with her little arms crossed until she left. It was so funny.

I must say, this is such a Kasey look. Same vacant stare for the camera.

First Day of School

Kale had his first day of preschool this last week. He was so excited to go. He picked out a new Lightning McQueen backpack and had it on about 30 minutes before it was even time to leave for school. His first day went great. I stayed with him for the first 20 minutes, and was actually the first parent to leave. He wasn't at all worried about it when I left. He barely looked up from playing to say goodbye. I think he will really enjoy his class and all the activites they do.

I finally got a picture of Jaylee smiling. She is starting to giggle more and more, and has a smile on her face more often than not. She is still a very happy baby.

Kids

The kids like wiggling on the floor with Jaylee. She's not so sure what to make of them.

Alana loves holding Jaylee, although Jaylee is already getting too big for her to hold easily.

Everytime I try to get a picture of Jaylee smiling, she stops as soon as the camera comes out. She is smiling and talking a lot now, and even trying to laugh a little.

Alana wanted me to make her hair pretty. She sat on my lap with her bag of hair things and said "pretty hair please". She was so excited when I was done she went and got the camera and asked me to take a picture.

Home

After a very stressful weekend of me being in the hospital again, it is very good to be home and enjoying time with all of the kids.

They have been handling things amazingly well. Jaylee is such a sweet, easy baby. I think God really knew that we would need that with everything else that was happening.

Kale and Alana are really enjoying their time with Grandma and Grandpa Smith this week. I'm sure they will be sorry to see them go on Saturday. I have been very glad for the help!

It has been an interesting week of trying to settle in. Jaylee is such a sweet, easy baby. I am so thankful for that. As long as her tummy is full, she is just quiet and watchful.

Kaleb and Alana are slowly getting used to the idea of having a baby sister. Alana is still mad at me, and they are both still pretty emotional. Hopefully next week will be a little easier and we can get a routine figured out.

Of course, having the temperatures topping out at 109 this week really didn't help anyones mood any. We will all be glad when it cools down a little bit.

She's Here!

Jaylee Josephine was born on July 1rst, at 4pm. She weighs 7lbs 8.2 oz, and is 20 inches long. Once she decided to come, she came in a hurry! They admited me Sunday morning after having contractions off and on for two days. Things still weren't moving all that quickly, until early afternoon.

Then she surprised everyone, including the doctor by showing up in a big hurry! My doctor didn't make it in time, but one of the midwives was able to get there to assist the nurses. My doctor showed up about 15 minutes after she was born.

Alana wanted to hold her right away. She was so excited about her baby sister! Kaleb didn't hold her until monday. He said she was too big, but changed his mind and did great holding her.

She has even more hair than Alana did! It is light brown, and very blonde underneath. Very pretty. She has very long hands and feet. That was the first thing that the nurses commented on, was her huge feet. She must be a Johnson!

We sang "Happy Birthday" to Jaylee, and got a birthday cake to share. Kale and Alana loved having a birthday party for their little sister. I think they really enjoyed that she didn't get to eat any cake like the big kids.

Kaleb and Alana have been very sweet with Jaylee. Alana loves giving her hugs and kisses, and wants to hold her all the time. We are really going to have to keep an eye on her being "helpful" with her sister. I am glad they are doing so well with her. The kids had a hard time with mommy being gone in the hospital with Jaylee, but hopefully we can calm down into a routine now that we are home. We are so excited about the new addition to our family!

Waiting for Baby

So we are down to the last week or two before the baby comes. I am very ready to be done! Dave has been out of town most of the last month for work. He just finished his last trip last night. I told him he need to stick pretty close to home from here on out.

Kale has been asking me constantly when the baby is coming out to play. He also likes to remind me that my tummy is really really big. Alana has been talking to my tummy and giving the baby kisses, which is sweet. We'll see what she thinks after we bring her home.

I was tucking Kale in the other night and we were talking, and he was asking again when the baby was coming out. I told him it wasn't quite time yet. He said, "Mommy, is the baby wearing a dress?" I told him, no the baby wasn't wearing anything. "You mean she's naked in there?!?!?!?! Mommy you need to go get the baby a dress. She's naked!" I love that he has everything all figured out. At least he thinks so.

Kale wanted to wear Daddy's belt. And of course, since Alana wants to do everything that Kale does, they both wore Daddy's belt. They thought this was great fun until they tried to walk. Needless to say, that didn't work very well.

100 Degrees

It has been over 100 degrees the last few days. Even the kids have decided that it is too hot! They ask to go out to play, but don't last very long before asking to go back in.

We went to a birthday party on saturday and they had a great time. It was so hot, they were dehydrated and very moody by the time we left. I can relate. I haven't been enjoying the heat either.

The kiddie pool came out yesterday, which Kaleb was excited about, but still won't get in. Alana decided that it is pretty fun to splash around in.

Unfortunately, if she splashes her brother at all, her starts crying. Hopefully he'll get a little more brave about the water as the summer goes on.

Mariner's Game

We took the kids to a Mariner's Game last weekend. I knew it would be my last trip for a while. They were so excited! Alana loves wearing her backpack like a big girl, even if it does almost make her tip over.

We met friends at the game and sat in the outfield bleachers. Really good seats for cheap seats! Kale was so excited to watch the game. Alana was less interested in the game, more into everything else going on. They both did really well sitting on laps and getting passed around the whole game.

At around 9pm Alana took off her shoes, and her coat and asked for her blanket. She knows when it is time to sleep! I was amazed she was able to sleep through all the yelling going on. Kale stayed awake for the whole game, but asked to go home to bed during the 9th inning.

We drove home after the game, and they were both asleep before we even got on the freeway and didn't make a sound the whole way home. We all had a lot of fun going to the game, but everyone was pretty tired and crabby the next day.

Community Days Carnival

We took the kids to the Community Days Carnival in town. They were so excited! They rode the cars ride twice, and did the super slide twice. Alana loved the slide especially. They wanted to keep going, but we were out of tickets. I guess it is about time to buy them the wristband so they can ride as much as they want! We did find out after the fact that Alana was actually too young to ride on the rides. They are supposed to be at least two because of their insurance. No one even mentioned it because she is so tall. I guess next time we'll know.

Kids at the Park

We have been able to take the kids to the park at least once or twice a week. They love it! Alana loves the swings, and has figured out how to swing on the bars too. Kale still loves the slide most of all.

News

I apologize that it has been so long since our last post. Our internet has been somewhat unreliable lately.

We had a wonderful Easter at home this year. The kids did an Easter egg hunt on Saturday, and we had church on Sunday. Aunt Julie came and spent the weekend with us, which was a lot of fun. Sunday afternoon we went to Grandpa and Mimi's house and did another Easter egg hunt. Very busy weekend, but the kids had a great time.

The kids are loving the warm spring weather, and are starting to get frustrated with Mommy not wanting to play as much as they'd like. I am very much looking forward to not being pregnant anymore! We still have a ways to go though. June seems like a long ways off right now.

Springtime Fun

We have been enjoying the springtime weather! The kids are loving having a chance to play outside most everyday. It is always the first thing they ask in the morning, no matter how cold it is!

Kaleb is getting more into riding his bike, and Alana likes to help push him around the patio.

Kale likes giving goofy smiles as soon as he sees the camera. Alana says "cheese" too, although rarely takes the time to actually look at the camera. She is too busy for that.

He is also starting to get more and more interested in the baby, especially since my tummy is noticeable now. At first he would just look at me funny, and ask if there was a baby in my tummy. Now he says he has a baby in his tummy named "Jesus" and has been telling everyone.

Alana loves going down the slide. She gets so excited, she starts saying "whee" while she's climbing up the stairs. Sometimes she still likes to hold my hand going down the slide, and other times she just dives down headfirst.

We have made a couple of trips to the parks around here with some friends, which the kids love. For some reason playing with other kids just makes it even more exciting. Kale is big into making new friends at the park, which is fun.

All of us on the bridge in front of our house. We couldn't get Alana to pay attention to the camera, until a cat walked by. She absolutely loves animals, but especially "Eldons" as she calls all cats. (my mom's cat is named Eldon, therefor that is what all cats are no matter if it is a black housecat, or a picture of a tiger or lion).

Spring is a very busy time for Dave with work, so we have been trying to enjoy the time that we have with him playing. Kale especially has a hard time when Daddy is gone. Alana does a little better, but as soon as Daddy comes home, she wont' leave his side. I think spring will go by fast and the baby will be here before we know it.
